This year Goldie celebrates 25 years of Timeless, the ground breaking album which catapulted him onto the worldwide stage.

In the run up to the release of the fully remastered version of the Timeless album, Goldie has been doing a series of interviews for his ‘Timeless Capsule‘, a dedicated website to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his iconic debut album

Gilles Peterson

This week it was the turn of broadcaster, DJ and Brownswood Recordings record label owner Gilles Peterson to speak to the golden one about where he was at a quarter of a century back.

The pair discussed Goldie’s introduction to the rave scene, how he met Kemistry & Storm, Doc Scott, how he got in with Reinforced Records, and the effect drugs had on his creative influence

Previous Interviews

Previous interviews are available at GoldieTimeless.com, where Goldie chats with people such as Grooverider, Pete Tong, & former manager Trenton Harrison-Lewis, all of whom had their hand in the albums success.

This year marks the 14th annual DJ Mag Best Of British Awards, their celebration of UK talent, a counter-balance to their more house music orientated global Top 100 DJs poll.

The DJ Mag Best Of British Award 2020 nominees were a showcase of the homegrown talent that continues to place the UK scene at the forefront of electronic music, with names such as Carl Cox, Hudson Mohawke, Ghetts, MJ Cole & Mistajam all getting nominee recognition

Award Winner

We’re pleased to say that drum and bass legend DJ Hype won the Soldier Of The Scene award, for his long standing service & dedication to the UK music scene. Speaking to DJ Mag he said…

“It’s lovely to get this award and get recognised by your magazine. I think people voted for me because I have always pretty much been known as a soldier of the scene anyway. I work much better when I please myself first rather than worry about what other people think in this industry, and that’s what got me big in the first place. After all, I ain’t a game player… I am a True Playa!”

D&B Nominees

Other name from the D&B scene that got nominations were, Doc Scott for Best Solo Stream Series, RAMLive House Party in the Best Multi-Artist Stream Series category, Bryan Gee’s ‘Future’ album on V Recordings was included for Best Compilation, and Krust represented in the Best Album selection for his recent ‘The Edge Of Everything’ LP

A-Zone Ft. Aphrodite – ‘Calling The People’ Remixes & Re-recordings

A-Zone Ft. Aphrodite - 'Calling The People' Remixes & Re-recordings

Release Date: 27/12/2020

Label: Aphrodite Recordings

Catalog: APH64

Continuing his ambitious quest to revisit and digitally re-release much-loved cuts from his back catalogue, jungle pioneer DJ Aphrodite returns with a re-recorded version of “Calling the People”, the summer anthem first released under his A-Zone alias via White House Records back in 1994.

Complete with brand-new remixes from in-demand Kings Of The Rollers member Bladerunner, famed breakbeat stalwarts The Freestylers and even DJ Aphrodite himself, this new package finds the iconic song sounding better than ever, its dancehall-leaning vocal samples and slinking basslines getting a new lease of life.

Upping the tempo on the song’s 2020 Jungle Mix, Aphro decorates the track with rapid-fire breaks and reversed FX, adding a newfound urgency to the track. Meanwhile, longstanding East of England producer and Hospital Records signee Bladerunner opts for a deeper, darker spin on the song. Utilising snarling basslines, pounding 808s and frantic drum programming, his rowdy reinterpretation is guaranteed to appeal to today’s drum and bass enthusiasts while staying true to the original song’s ragga-tinged flavour.

Decorated London duo The Freestylers centre their remix around resonant, drawn-out sub-bass, staccato keys, reverberating vocal cuts and shuffling grooves, resulting in a surefire floor-filler. With several dub mixes also available as the counterparts to their respective vocal versions, this EP is sure to have something for everyone, striking a healthy balance between nostalgia and innovation and continuing to ensure that Aphro’s classic productions are as relevant as ever in the digital age.
